Do you need help with your Kwikset SmartCode lock? Have you forgotten the code and need to reset it? If so, then this blog post is for you! In this blog post, we will walk through how to easily reset your Kwikset SmartCode lock in just a few simple steps. Let’s get started.
1- Choose the Type of Reset You Need:
First, decide what reset you need for your Kwikset SmartCode lock. Two types of resets are available: a master code reset and a factory reset.
If you have forgotten your master code or need to change it for some reason, then a master code reset is the correct choice for you. A master code reset will allow you to create a new master code without losing any user codes that may already exist in your lock.
However, if all else fails and you are unable to access your lock using existing codes or cannot remember them at all, then a factory reset is the way to go. This reset type will delete all user codes and restore the lock to its factory settings.
Note that no data can be recovered after performing a factory reset; any existing user codes stored in safety before starting this process would be lost forever once completed.
2- Disconnecting the Lock from Power Supply & Battery Source:
Once you know which type of reset you need, it’s time to disconnect the power supply from your Kwikset SmartCode lock.
First, ensure the deadbolt is fully open and unlocked before removing the battery cover from the backside of a doorknob or handle set (depending on the model).
Once removed, remove the batteries and the wiring connection from both sides of the battery compartment if necessary (again, depending on the model).
3- Entering Programming Mode & Performing Reset:
Now that everything has been disconnected from the power supply and battery source, it’s time to enter programming mode by pressing and holding down button “A” (located on the inside portion of the doorknob/handle set) until the LED light flashes green twice. From here, release button “A” followed by pressing either “1” or “2” depending on what type of reset needed previously determined during step 1 (master code = press 1; factory = press 2).
After entering either one or two as appropriate based on the particular situation being addressed, the LED light should flash red three times, followed by green three times, indicating successful completion and that the programming mode has been exited automatically.
Keep in mind that reset indications can be LED flashing or a Beep sound depending on the model.
4- The final stage of entering a new password:
Enter your new 6-8 digit code into the keypad to set it as your new passcode (make sure you remember this code!). The lock should then beep twice and unlock itself to indicate that it has accepted your new passcode successfully! Put the battery cover back, and you’re done!
